Leech/Saunders

Genealogy has always captivated my imagination and quizzical nature.  My one wish is that I could do the research myself on the spot, as in various places in England where my paternal ancestors originated.  My maternal ancestor's roots (Mickelson/Maristuen)  are in Norway and the United States of America.

At this point I do not have access to any early family photos but I hope to add some to the pages given time.  A picture of great great grandfather, Richard Sibbs Leech can be found at......

If anyone reading this, knows of the whereabouts of any Sibbs as a given name, please contact me as this is a rare family name.

The Leech family members are world spread but mainly in England.  From Plymouth to Devon to Kent to Hampshire to Canada and Australia.  Sibbs Leech, son of Richard Sibbs, married Emma Bassett in Kent and later moved to Portsmouth, Hants, following the dockyard work.  The men of the family were gainfully employed as shipwrights and other jobs associated with shipyard labour.

The maternal family name is SAUNDERS.  Elizabeth Mary Saunders married Arthur James Leech at St. Mary's in Portsmouth, Hants on March 5, 1906.  Arthur, along with his brother in law, James Edward Saunders, homesteaded in Saskatchewan of the same year.  Elizabeth came the following year with her parents, James and Mary Saunders and Jim's fiancé, Nell Snook.  Arthur and Elizabeth, known to the family as Wom and Womble, had two sons, Arthur James Jr and George.  Jack married Ellen Doris Mickelson and George married Idamay Standish.
